Chancelade (Dordogne) - 2

Comme Merlande, Chancelade fut ravagée à différentes époques, par l’occupation anglaise (1360-1367) puis par les guerres de religion (16^e siècle). Très endommagée par ces dernières, l’église abbatiale fut restaurée au 17^e et au 18^e siècle.

Pendant la révolution l’abbaye fut vendue comme bien national. Ce n’est qu’en 1998 qu’une communauté de Chanoines Réguliers de Saint Augustin en reprirent  possession.

Like Merlande, Chancelade was ravaged at several ages, by the English occupation (1360-1367) then by the Religions Wars (16th century). Very injured by these lastes, the church was restaured on the 17^th and 18^th century.

During the French Revolution it was sold as a national property. Only on 1998 a community of Regular of Saint Augustin Canons came back to live in Chancelade.

Un tableau du 17e siècle, Le Christ aux Outrages, fut attribué successivement à Georges de la Tour puis à Guerrit van Honthorst ou à l’un de ses élèves.

A picture of the 17th century, The Christ at the Outrages, was attribued to Georges de la Tour then to Guerrit van Honthorst or to one of his pupils.
