Le château de Dournazac

Montbrun 

A l’extérieur du village de Dournazac, dans un décor pastoral, nous découvrons le château de Montbrun au bord d’un lac.

Outside of the village of Dournazac, in a pastoral scenery, we discover the castle of Montbrun at the margin of a lake.

Le site fut érigé en place forte dès le 11^ème siècle. La motte (tertre artificiel) d’un fort primitif en bois est encore visible près du château actuel. Une forteresse de pierre lui succéda au 12^ème siècle dont il ne subsiste que le donjon de style roman (35 m). En 1199 le seigneur de Montbrun, Pierre Brun, dirigeait la garnison de Châlus-Chabrol avec Pierre Basile qui blessa mortellement Richard Cœur de Lion.

The site was set up ready a fortified place from the 11th century. The  artificial hillock of a wooden primitive fort is still visible near the actual castle. A stony fortress succeeded its in the 12th century of which there is only a donjon of Romanic style (35 m). In 1199 the Lord of Montbrun, Pierre Brun, managed the garrison of Châlus-Chabrol with Pierre Basile who hurt lethally Richard the Lion Heart.

Incendié au 15^ème siècle et en 1917, saccagé et pillé à la révolution, Montbrun fut à chaque fois restauré entièrement. Déjà au 15^ème siècle il était davantage un château d’agrément qu’un ouvrage défensif comme en attestent ses larges fenêtres à meneaux de style renaissance. 

Burned in 15th century and in 1917, sacked and plundered in the revolution, Montbrun was every time restored completely. Already in 15th century it was more a castle of enjoyment of which a work defensive as give evidence its wide mullioned windows of Renaissance style.
