Look at St Christoph then go away reassured

Le long de la route entre Brantôme et Bourdeilles, sur la commune de Valeuil (Dordogne), un paysage étrange retient l’attention. Eboulis et arbres lui confèrent un aspect fantastique.

Along the road between Brantôme and Bourdeilles, on the commune of Valeuil (Dordogne), we can see a strange landscape . Crumble-down stones and trees give it a  fanciful appearance.

D’une roche fendue s’élève un chêne.

From a split rock stands an oak.

A l’arrière nous observons une niche vide où, nous dit-on, était une statue de la Vierge.

At the back we note an empty niche where, somebody says to us, was a statue of the Blessed Virgin.

Et, dominant le tout, se dresse sur un éperon rocheux le château de Ramefort dont les murs les plus anciens datent du 12^e siècle. Il fut remanié aux 15^e et 19^e siècles. Il appartient aujourd’hui à des particuliers.

And, overlooking all, rise on a rocky spur, the Ramefort’s castle. It oldest walls are of the 12^th century. It was altered at the 15^th and 19^th centuries. Today it is the property of private persons.
